From The Diamond in Lake Elsinore...

It's the final tuneup before the regular season, and the Padres travel up the 15 to Lake Elsinore to play the Royals at the Diamond.

First of all, the Diamond is a "gem" of a ballpark.  The folks here do a great job in creating a big league atmosphere and they do it right.  So it's great to be here today and we'll get a chance to see some of the top prospects in the Padres organization here as well.

Alright, here's the starters for today:

Maybin 8
Venable 9
Headley 5
Guzman DH
Alonso 3
Blanks 7
Hudson 4
Bartlett 6
Baker 2

Matt Palmer will pitch

Roster Set:

Following the game last night the Padres set their roster for the 2012 season.  Mark Kotsay and Carlos Quentin were each placed on the 15-day disabled list.  Kotsay with the calf strain and Quentin following knee surgery.

Everth Cabrera and Brad Brach were both optioned to Triple-A Tucson, so Andy Parrino and Micah Owings are both on the 25 man roster.  Jeremy Hermida was also added as a non-roster player, in a corresponding move.

So we're all set for baseball in 2012, with Edinson Volquez set to face the NL Cy Young award winner, Clayton Kershaw tomorrow at Petco Park.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:05pm, we'll come on the air at 4pm on XX 1090.

Let's get this thing going!

Today's broadcast will be on ESPN Radio 1700, Bob Scanlan will join me starting at 2pm.
